The Bittersweetness of the City

There are dogs in strollers and beggars outside of train stations. There are construction workers on the train in the morning playing games on their phones—someone’s young son made into a working man. There are first-time dreamers and well-adjusted apartment owners. There are the generous ones in clothes that aren’t warm enough. The ones in shoes that are wearing down as they are. If you listen, they share memories of delight.

The sun sets and each head looks up at the purple.

In a city, there are many steps taken and many steps to go.
